According to ManpowerGroup, a provider of work force solutions, employers should train their business leaders in order to evolve their organizations, particularly as talent shortages continue and risks are connected to business decisions.

"Developing leaders who can navigate volatility and build the flexible work orce needed to fulfill a business strategy is too often today just a concept versus a top priority for executive teams," says Jeffrey A. Joerres, chairman and CEO of ManpowerGroup. "The unpredictable nature of today's economy is forcing all business leaders to make quick, yet carefully vetted decisions. All business leaders must think very critically about the complex decision-making skills required by their executive teams in the Human Age."

Forty-nine percent of employers report having difficulties filling mission-critical positions, according to the ManpowerGroup's 2012 Talent Shortage Survey. Regardless of this, 56 percent of respondents expect this to have little to no impact on key constituents, such as customers and investors. This figure jumped from 36 percent in 2011.

"Complacency does not enable a company to manage risk, find the best talent or make effective business decisions," says Jonas Prising, president of ManpowerGroup. "Business decisions in the Human Age carry more risk than ever before. A specific mix of skills and mindsets need to be developed in leadership teams to frame the right context for the decision-making process."

The survey also finds that optimism is improving among respondents as the Net Employment Outlook for Quarter One 2013 is a positive 12 percent, representing a rise of one percentage point from fourth-quarter results in 2012. This is also slightly higher than the positive 9 percent from the same period in 2012. In fact, the first quarter of 2013 marks the strongest first-quarter data since 2008.
