With signs of economic improvements coming, information technology jobs are opening beyond the traditional markets, according to a study by Modis, a provider of IT staffing.
While those traditional locations, such as San Francisco and New York City, are still major areas experiencing growth, Midwestern cities, including Omaha, Neb.;Minneapolis; and St. Louis are undergoing job growth, the study finds. The greater number of positions in the Midwest is attributed to more respondents moving their operations to markets with lower costs of living that still have educated work forces.
Among the most in-demand IT positions are project managers, software developers and business analysts, the study finds, while professionals with three to seven years of experience are in high demand for middle and upper management positions. For IT job seekers in the financial services industry, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Boston and New York City are experiencing high demand. Omaha and Raleigh, N.C., are the top cities for the biotech, health care and pharmaceutical industries.
