Four pro-business advocacy groups and a major health insurer have launched a campaign designed to derail the federal health insurance tax set to go into effect on Jan. 1.
Calling itself The Affordable Coverage Project, the new organization was created by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Manufacturers, National Retail Federation, the National Association of Health Underwriters, and America's Health Insurance Plans.
Its website is replete with dire warnings about the hit that small businesses in particular will take from the tax. Families will pay thousands more over the next decade because of the tax, and those covered by Medicare will take a financial beating as well, the site says.

It urges visitors to post its anti-tax content to Facebook and tweet it out to Twitter followers. In addition to features that encourage site visitors to share their contact information with the group, the site asks visitors to contact Congress about repealing the tax.
The group's founders aren't just relying on the website to get the word out. They plan to unleash an online advertising program that will gather steam as Congress gets back into session in the fall.
Part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the tax on insurance policies is expected to raise $8 billion in 2014 and more than $100 billion total over the next decade.
