The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries has named David Lipkin as its new president and has appointed well-known retirement industry guru Robert Kaplan to its board of directors.
Lipkin and Kaplan were inaugurated into their new positions at the 2013 ASPPA Annual Conference in National Harbor, Md.
Lipkin is best known for founding Metro Benefits, but he has had a long career in the industry. After receiving a B.A. in mathematics from Hamilton College, he began his career with Aetna Life and Casualty. In 1983, he moved to William M. Mercer in Pittsburgh, where he served on the actuarial committee and acted as senior actuary and consultant to a variety of clients, including some Fortune 500 companies.

Lipkin continues to spend a significant amount of time working with clients. He is involved in the profession and has been asked to speak on a variety of topics, including the professional responsibilities of the actuary.
He has published numerous articles in professional publications, has been selected by the U.S. Department of Labor to serve as an "Independent Fiduciary" for many orphaned/abandoned plans; and was elected in 2005 to the Board of Directors of ASPPA. He also served as a co-chair of ASPPA's Government Affairs Committee from 2006 until 2010.
Kaplan serves as co-chair of ASPPA's Government Affairs Committee. As the vice president and national training consultant for ING US, he is responsible for conducting webcasts and live training for ING US Retirement Services personnel, as well as members of the third party administrator and financial advisor communities.
Kaplan will serve a full term on the Board, which will expire in 2016. He has more than 30 years of experience in retirement plan services and is a frequent speaker at industry events.
The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries is a national organization of more than 16,000 retirement plan and benefits professionals that serves as the educator, voice and advocate for the employer-based retirement system.
