Covered California managers say individual activity jumped sharply in the first week of December.
The state-based exchange took in completed coverage applications for 144,148 people during the week that ended Dec. 7, or an average of about 20,600 per day.
That compares with a daily average of about 6,600 in October and November.

A total of 109,296 people enrolled in commercial qualified health plan coverage from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30.
About 67 percent of the applicants who signed up for plans and were eligible for Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act subsidies picked silver plans, and 18 percent picked bronze.
Among applicants who chose QHPs and weren't eligible for subsidies, 30 percent signed up for bronze plans, 27 percent for silver, 15 percent for gold and 24 percent for platinum.
The carriers with the biggest enrollment were WellPoint, Blue Shield of California, Kaiser Permanente and Health Net. Other carriers attracted just 3.8 percent of the enrollees.
The exchange received 577 applications from would-be exchange agents, up from 251 the previous week.
The total number of exchange agents certified increased to 8,627.
The number of agents certified during the week increased to 927, from 251.
