Women's leaders gathered at the state capitol building in Hartford, Connecticut Monday to urge the State Senate leadership to quickly bring the "Retirement for All CT" bill to the floor for a full vote.
The bill directs the executive branch to create a public retirement savings plan for all Connecticut residents and businesses.
The women maintained that addressing the retirement crisis is critical for women in Connecticut. Two-thirds of Connecticut women over 65 have no retirement income except Social Security, and elderly women are twice as likely as men to be living below the poverty line.

A number of legislators have publicly backed the bill, including State Senate President Donald Williams, State Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney, and House Majority Leader Rep. Joe Aresimowicz. Treasurer Denise Nappier and Comptroller Kevin Lembo have also supported the plan.
Among those who gathered Monday were Teresa Younger, Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW); Julia Evans Starr, Executive Director, CT Commission on Aging Connecticut National Organization for Women (CT NOW); Nora Duncan, State Director, AARP Connecticut; Lori Pelletier, Secretary-Treasurer, CT AFL-CIO; and Lindsay Farrell, Executive Director, Connecticut Working Families.
