Enroll America is amping up its Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act enrollment efforts by looking to find and train more than 2,000 new in-person assisters.
The group — a nonprofit formed in 2011 to get the word out about PPACA — said Wednesday that in-person assisters are vital to successful enrollment under the health care reform law.
The second enrollment period under PPACA begins Nov. 15.

"Last year we worked closely with in-person assister organizations across the country, and we saw first-hand how important it was that consumers could sit down with someone from their community to complete the enrollment process," said Enroll America President Anne Filipic. "This year, our hundreds of organizers and thousands of volunteers will be working to bring even more people into this rewarding role, and making sure they have the training and support they need to be successful."
Consumers who received in-person assistance when enrolling in coverage last year were more than twice as likely to successfully complete enrollment as those who attempted to enroll online without help, Enroll America data found. Their data also found that African-Americans and Latinos, particularly hard-to-reach groups, were 43 percent more likely to seek in-person help than their white counterparts.
Last year, Enroll America helped organize a team of about 30,000 volunteers.
Enroll America has some challenges ahead of it for enrollment, as the exchanges have been under increased pressure. A new survey out from Morning Consult found that the likelihood of consumers buying PPACA plans has dropped 19 percentage points from last year.
The Government Accountability Office in a report detailed continued privacy and security weaknesses on HealthCare.gov despite some strides made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services within the last year, and confusion and concern by consumers still plague the law.
The Obama administration also recently said that PPACA had 7.3 million paying enrollees as of mid-August, down from the 8 million figure they announced at the end of enrollment in April.
