Nearly 10 million people have signed up for PPACA coverage this enrollment season, making the administration’s goal of paid enrollees more achievable as enrollment closing nears.
Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said Wednesday that 9.9 million have enrolled or renewed coverage on the state and exchange exchanges. The figure includes 7.5 million people on the federal exchange and 2.4 million on the state exchanges.
Burwell touted the latest enrollment figures during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, The Hill reported.
The latest figures are a jump from last week, when the administration said 9.6 million had enrolled in PPACA coverage.
The administration has stated its goal for this year is to have 9.1 million paid enrollees. Outside estimates put the enrollment estimate at 12 million. It’s not clear how many enrollees this year have paid for their coverage. Last year, the administration announced the law’s enrollment number had fallen from 8 million to 7.3 million enrollees because of people who had signed up for coverage but did not pay their premium.
Officials also said last week that more than 10.1 million people have enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program as of November.
The administration and other outside groups, such as Enroll America, have been on a final push to encourage enrollment. The deadline for buying coverage for 2015 is Feb. 15.
