It finally happened: the newspaper business has fallen so low that the occupation of newspaper reporter has been rated the worst job in America.
Worse than a lumber jack, last year’s #200 on CareerCast’s ranking of 200 jobs. Worse than a Marine recruit, cook and taxi driver.

In fact, if you give this list any credence at all, you’ll keep you and yours away from the traditional media business. This year’s 10 worst jobs include three media positions: Broadcaster and photojournalist also fell into the bottom 10 this time around.
We’ve already ranked the 10 best jobs for 2015. So now let’s take a gander at the numbers for CareerCast’s 10 worst jobs of 2015. If a job ranked in the bottom 10 last year, the ranking will be in parentheses. The lower the score, the “better” the job.
191. Mail carrier
Score: 626
Income: $41,068
Bad, but not horrible, work environment and stress. What killed this score was its hiring outlook: -28.3
192. Firefighter (#192)
Score: 636
Income: $45,264
Off-the-charts horrible work environment, unless you love fighting fires. Off-the-charts stress, unless you love adrenaline rushes. Some job openings.
193. Taxi driver (#197)
Score: 638
Income: $23,118
You talkin to me? Yeah, your work environment stinks and you have high stress. But at least there are cabbie jobs available.
194. Corrections officer (#191)
Score: 642
Income: $39,163
Obviously, a terrible work environment, but not as stressful as other jobs in the Terrible 10.
195. Photojournalist
Score: 656
Income: $29,267
Couldn’t you make more shooting weddings and bar mitzvahs? Everyone with a phone is a photojournalist today.
196. Broadcaster
Score: 658
Income: $29,374
These folks used to make good dough. No more. High stress and a negative hiring outlook.
197. Cook (#195)
Score: 659
Income: $42,208
Work environment almost as bad as the military’s, with long hours, low pay, and little room for growth, according to CareerCast.
198. Enlisted military personnel (#198)
Score: 687
Income: $44,283
Terrible work environment and high stress. And there are live rounds.
199. Lumberjack (#200)
Score: 716
Income: $34,100
Another negative hiring outlook — who’s looking for this work anyway? High stress (Timber!) and lousy work environment.
200. Newspaper reporter (#199)
Score: 737
Income: $36,267
This job is characterized by a terrible work environment, very high stress and a negative hiring outlook — one of the few negative outlooks on the list of 200.
