Karen Ignagni, president and CEO of America's Health Insurance Plans, is moving back to the corporate world after leading AHIP through the difficult early years of health care reform.
Ignagni is joining New York insurer EmblemHealth after providing leadership since 1993 at AHIP.
She replaces another seemingly entrenched CEO, Frank Branchini, who has been with EmblemHealth and its primary operating subsidiaries, Group Health Incorporated and Health Plan of New York for three decades.

Ignagni has been a highly active spokesperson for insurers during the health care reform transition period. Most recently, she took to task nonprofit groups that criticized insurers for failing to cover certain birth control products and processes as required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, saying the studies offered "a distorted picture of reality."
