As insurance professionals, our world is changing around us very rapidly, yet we seem to be an industry mired in the status quo. Some of us are leaving scratch marks as we're dragged into the future.

We are on the cusp of what can be an incredibly exciting and successful time for those who are willing to be thought leaders among our peers. Part of this is recognizing that our entire system is broken.

In my mind, we must look at what we do with the wonder and curiosity of a newborn.  That's hard to do when many of us, like myself, have been doing this for decades.  But it's going to be required if we want to survive.  It's in the best interest of our clients, their employees and ourselves.

How do we affect change when government regulation, the entire health care delivery system, and even the thinking of our own clients and their employees seems to be dead set against this change, even when reluctance is to their own detriment?  Well, that's where thought leaders come in.

I envision a broker community that is more collaborative, more engaged in each other's success, and more cooperative and sharing than ever before.  I know we all feel like we have the "special sauce" that feeds our success, but I have learned to give away my "trade secrets" freely.  Why do I do this?  First, I am passionate about what I do.  Second, I don't think I'm the smartest guy in the industry, so if I find something that works, I can always imagine what a smarter person could do with an already successful idea. Lastly, it keeps me always moving forward and working toward the "next big thing."

My goal is to help my peers throughout the country to learn about the biggest changes in regulation and other asepcts of the industry, and facilitate an environment where the best minds get together, share ideas, and walk away smarter than they walked in.  I hope every reader will support me in these efforts.

Together, we can take the challenges we are all facing and turn them into opportunities — opportunities to become more successful, more dedicated, and more impactful on the lives, the health, the happiness of our clients, their employees, their families and ourselves.
