Nearly 20 million Americans are covered by health savings account-eligible insurance plans, up 13 percent from last year, according to new analysis by America's Health Insurance Plans.

AHIP reported 19.7 million Americans are covered by an HSA/HDHP, an increase of approximately 2 million more enrollees since January 2014.

The large group market continues to lead in enrollment gains, and now represents 78 percent of all enrollment in HSAs/HDHPs, AHIP reported.

  • Monthly premiums were reported for all markets (individual, small group, and large group). Nationally, the monthly average premiums were $486 for single coverage and $1,142 for families.

AHIP president and CEO Marilyn Tavenner in a statement called HSAs a "valuable and affordable coverage option" for millions of consumers.

"These plans offer families the flexibility to save for future medical expenses and make informed decisions about their health care needs," she said.
