While many know the important reasons for having life insurance, some are unaware of additional benefits that may be included with coverage. Some carriers offer services to help employees take care of important financial matters.

One often underused service is financial planning assistance, which can help with everything from will preparation and funeral planning services, to basic financial planning and identity theft assistance. Some carriers also have travel assistance benefits, which can help plan trips, assist with replacing lost passports or credit cards, and help out if an emergency situation arises away from home.

Employers should bring up these additional benefits — which usually come standard with a group carrier's policy — as it can encourage enrollment and help employees ensure their financial matters are taken care of, should the unexpected happen.
