Will you be joining BenefitsPRO in Indianapolis April 11-13 for our annual Broker Expo? Great! (And if you're not already registered, don't miss out!) We look forward to seeing you at our exciting sessions and keynotes, but we also hope you get a chance to explore the Circle City while you’re in town. While Indy may not immediately come to mind as a tourist hotspot, 26 million people a year visit the city — that’s 71,000 people every day.

Here are a few things to do while you’re in Indy.

  1. Visit the Indianapolis Zoo
Nestled in the White River State Park, the Indianapolis Zoo is home to 350 species of animals and is ranked in the Top 10 of best zoos nationally. Don’t miss the International Orangutan Center, which features a one-of-a-kind view.

  2. Check out the monuments and memorials
Outside of Washington, D.C., Indianapolis has more monuments and memorials than any other city. To name just a few: Soldiers and Sailors Monument and Memorial, University Park, and the USS Indianapolis Memorial.

  3. Catch a game
Indianapolis’ Victory Field has been pegged as the best minor league ballpark in the country by Sports Illustrated (and the Indy Indians will be at home on April 11and 12!). More of a basketball fan? The Pacers also play at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on April 12.

  4. Relax on the Central Canal
Take a gondola ride along the White River State park’s Central Canal while taking in public art, war memorials, and urban greenery. Venetian travel not your style? Explore the area on a cruiser, Segway, or on foot and stop in to any of the many nearby museums and cafes.

  5. Get a taste of old-world style
St. Elmo Steak House is an award-winning restaurant with a menu that is reminiscent of the early 1930s with a décor to match.

  6. Get retro with an arcade game
Grab a beer at Indianapolis’ free-play arcade bar, Tappers, chock full of your 80s favorites. Centipede, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pong, Space Invaders? Yeah, they got that, and more.

  7. Hear some live music
Well-known local piano wizard Gregory Baranovsky opened Gregory’s Russian Restaurant when he couldn’t find himself a regular gig. Not only can you catch performances from folk acts to Broadway songs, but you can also get a taste of the native’s Belarus and Eastern Europe roots with potato pancakes and borscht.

  8. Steer yourself to the Steer-Inn
It’s an Indianapolis favorite and staple, home to the signature pork tenderloin sandwich that’s been immortalized thanks to TV shows like Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. The greasy spoon offers a huge menu, so no one will leave hungry.

  9. Get ready for the Indy 500
Indianapolis is largely known for its world-renowned Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the Indy 500 (it’s May 28 this year). The speedway is also home to the Hall of Fame Museum where you can learn about some of the greats who have circled the racetrack.

  10. Get even more ready for the Indy 500
Do you have the need for speed? Sign up for the Indy Racing Experience, where you can be a passenger in a car driven by an Indy Racing League Driver, or drive yourself in a car the competed in an actual Indy 500 race.

Be sure to take a look at the agenda for a complete list of speakers and sesssions. We can't wait to see you there!
