One of the biggest undertakings in HR is recruitment. This year, the human resource industry has done a lot of soul searching on how to match jobs to the right employees.

Unsurprisingly, 2018 will see even more emphasis placed on this, especially as the market continues to shift, with demand outpacing supply. To combat this, HR professionals must embrace technology-driven trends, both to create positive experiences for candidates and to manage workflow. Many of these tech tools are already available and will simply grow in use and popularity; the smart thing is to invest time and resources now to get ahead of the game in the year ahead.

Shaping positive experience: make communication easy

Regardless of the size of your company, your ability to successfully attract and recruit top talent depends on the ability to manage the hiring process, and conversely, the candidate experience through the hiring process. It’s about how the candidate is treated, and how they perceive they’re being treated throughout the hiring cycle.

Creating that good feeling is increasingly important as it shifts from a buyer’s market to a seller’s market in numerous industries. Most companies have been using recruiting methods and tools intended to sift through the masses of applicants and reveal qualified candidates. Now, prospective employees are getting multiple offers and are in the market for a shorter period of time.

Companies that want to attract and scoop up top talent will have to switch sourcing strategies and tools to ones that attract people.

Two-way business texting gives recruiters a way to engage applicants in a fast, authentic and practical way. It streamlines communication and reaches prospects in the way they prefer: texting. With a business texting platform, scheduled texts can remind candidates of upcoming interviews or assignments, making them feel important and engaged. That equals an overall positive experience for the applicant.. Communication advances like business texting make the entire HR process much more natural and less stressful for applicants.

AI makes its mark

Artificial intelligence is no longer just a buzzword or some next-gen technology that was only mentioned in blockbuster films set in the future. It has already come to life and has been ringing in the ear of most HR and recruiting professionals for some time now.

So, what advantages does it bring HR and recruiting professionals in 2018? Technology like chatbots can assist recruiting with the primary screening and preliminary interviews of the candidates. Chatbots have become advanced enough to answer candidate questions about employer policies, culture, benefits or even the hiring process. And by using chatbots, recruiters are able to focus their times on interviews and closing offers.

Social media: an untapped resource

More and more, companies are looking to tap into Facebook’s two billion user base to find new employees. This trend comes back to the idea of the passive candidates. When it comes to recruiting employees, everyone assumes LinkedIn is the best option. While LinkedIn has millions of users, many of them tend to be passive, meaning that they do not check or update their profile every month. Facebook users, on the other hand, include a larger pool of people managing their profiles on a regular basis.

In general, social platforms offer a dynamic, two-way dialogue between a recruiter and candidate, rather than another passive form of advertising. These sites can make it very easy for recruiters to become trusted advisers to candidates and genuinely get to know them.

Overall, it’s clear that a marriage between HR and technology is key to keeping up today’s dynamic workplace. Modern, forward-thinking companies need to adjust their staffing strategies to make work easier for recruiters to entice prospects more efficiently. Even before the calendar turns to 2018, it’s a worthwhile goal to start preparing for the future today.
