The best way to improve the health care industry? Borrow ideas from other industries. The health care industry is going to be doing just that in 2019, exploring the way other industries handle such things as the customer experience, ways to boost efficiency and improve price transparency. So says the PwC Health Research Institute in its annual Top Health Industry Issues report. Continually spiking health care costs and pressure to do more with less is pushing the U.S. health care industry into a corner, according to the report. In fact, it says, it will need to create its own "'Southwest Airlines of Health care,' a system that prioritizes efficiency, convenience, and cost while treating patients more like consumers and still turning a profit." Why? Basically, that's the kind of system American consumers have told PwC's HRI they want since 2013.
