As open enrollment season approaches, employers are rolling out new (or modified) health insurance packages (among other benefits) and hoping that this will be the year where they can finally make an impact on their health care expenses.

Unfortunately, it probably won’t, according to Alegeus’s 2019 Open Enrollment Exit Poll. The problem? Employers aren’t working with their benefit brokers or plan partners to provide the education employees need to make informed decisions.

“As consumers take on more responsibility for their health care costs, it’s important that they are supported and guided to make informed decisions,” said Steven Auerbach, Alegeus CEO. “It’s up to the CDH industry to ensure employers and consumers are not leaving billions of dollars in unused tax savings on the table each year. While open enrollment is an annual selection period, education initiatives should be a year-round focus for all employers.”
