The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) periodically produces Occupational Employment Statistics – State Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates.  The most recent state-by-state reports I’ve found is May 2019.  That’s pretty current.  Among the data they report are the number of jobs in the state and mean annual wage.

They have a job classification of interest: 13-1141 Compensation, Benefits and Job Analyst Specialists.  This sounds like a grouping of jobs in the HR or Personnel category that we’re talking about.
