What’s the good news, ladies? Thankfulness

This month, I get to introduce you to Laura and Cortney. These women reflect not only on the positives that have come out of this year, but how they are developing their passions to drive them forward into 2021.

We are in the home stretch of 2020!  Anyone else ready to call it early?  I know there are always positives we can take from any situation, but Lord help me, 2020 has been trying.  I know they say we aren’t given more than we can handle, but I swear the Universe has more confidence than I have in myself this year, and I’m ready to turn the page.

I will say that one of the positives has been to continue writing this series and even launching a Wonder Woman Mastermind this summer with women who have been featured in this series in the past.  Once a month, we get together to discuss a selected topic that hits home for women in our industry and it’s been a joy to feel such a great connection to other women throughout the country during this time.

This month, I get to introduce you to Laura and Cortney.  These women reflect not only on the positives that have come out of this year, but how they are developing their passions to drive them forward into 2021.

Laura Busick, Conner Insurance

“My career started more than 30 years ago as a young single mother struggling to make ends meet.  Thanks to an amazing mentor who took the time to invest in me, I found my niche as a self-funded account manager and have enjoyed growing in this industry.

Learning new strategies is exciting, because this is an industry that is ever-evolving, and I embrace change.  I now have the opportunity to execute the NextGen Benefits Strategies in the account management job function.  This affords me the opportunity to train and mentor an amazing team of account managers in those innovations, allowing me to invest in others the way my mentors continue to invest in me.”

Cortney Heykoop, Clover Leaf Wealth Strategies

“2020 has been a wild ride so far, with many challenges both professionally and personally as Ihave learned to serve my family and clients in different ways.  In February, right before the lockdown, I had the privilege to be a keynote speaker in front of a group of fellow female financial advisors in Los Angeles.  I spoke on the need to think differently, to act with empathy and actively look to serve special needs families.  This group faces unique challenges, as they plan for their financial future and that of their special needs child.  The pandemic has heightened the need for these families, as they struggle with financial health and the challenges brought on by remote or decreasing resources.  Serving this community has become my passion and is leading me out of the fog of 2020 and towards growth for 2021. Speaking in front of my peers was an honor and highlight of 2020.”
