Whether trend or coincidence, there’s a fair amount of news about women in the insurance and financial industry recently. Here’s the latest we’ve seen:

Workterra announced the appointment of HR and benefits technology industry leader, Ben Yomtoob, as its new President. Most recently, Ben served as a Senior HR and Benefits Technology Consultant at Gallagher. Before that, he served as Senior Vice President, IT and Operations at Delta Dental.

Women in Insurance and Financial Services (WIFS) announced the recipients of the Wealth Management Certified Professional (WMCP) Scholarship for the Advancement of Women in Financial Services. It is offered to women seeking the WMCP designation from The American College of Financial Services. Funds for this new program were provided by the Larry R. Pike Chair in Insurance and Investments endowment, established by The College and Ameritas.

OneDigital Investment Advisors announced it has acquired the assets of Fiduciary Plan Advisors (FPA). Nine employees have joined OneDigital from FPA. Founded in 2014, Fiduciary Plan Advisors is led by Jania Stout whose credentials span over 20 years and who was National Association of Plan Advisors President from 2018-2020. FPA is one of eight acquisitions completed so far in 2021 by OneDigital.

LegalBillReview.com announced the addition of Virginia Griffith, JD as VP of Business Development. Griffith will be responsible for assisting corporate legal departments in managing their outside counsel spend and expanding partner relationships. Griffith is an experienced business development professional with more than 20 years in the legal profession, having previously worked with ALM Media and Thomson Reuters. [Editor's note: ALM Media is the parent company of BenefitsPRO.com.]

The HRA Council, a non-partisan advocacy group that promotes education and awareness around HRAs, has been formed. Founding members include the following organizations:

Fragomen announced it has acquired Nomadic, a provider of technology-led solutions for short-term travel compliance. The company expects to leverage Nomadic technology to introduce solutions for business traveler management.

American Trust Company signed a definitive agreement to acquire LT Trust Company, a national retirement plan provider and recordkeeper. The firm provides its open architecture 401(k) recordkeeping and other administrative plan solutions to over 4,300 plans, 100,000 participants, across all 50 states. Chairman and CEO Bob Beriault will continue as a consultant to American Trust, as well as a shareholder, and the firm’s approximately 100 employees will all join American Trust at the close of the transaction.

Alera Group announced the acquisition of Boston Benefit Partners (BPP), a health and welfare consulting and brokerage firm in the area of employee benefit plans. BBP was founded by Carol Chandor, Piper McNealy and Kathryn Tolan and is certified as a women-owned business through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). The Boston Benefit Partners team will continue serving clients in their existing roles.
