In the past year, some 12 million people have signed up for health coverage through the ACA marketplaces, as well as more than 500,000 during the government's special enrollment period. The surge in signups comes in response to several actions by the Biden administration to make premiums more affordable, as well as its efforts to increase enrollment and awareness.

In fact, despite actions by the Trump administration to weaken the ACA and do away with it completely, the marketplaces have grown increasingly stronger in recent years, with more insurers and plan options available.
