‘Urgent’ update: Baylor Scott & White Health and NextCare add 41 Texas clinics

Baylor Scott & White, the largest not-for-profit health care provider in Texas, will now become one of the state’s largest urgent care providers with the NextCare Urgent Care partnership.

Patients in Texas will soon start noticing expanded urgent care options, thanks to the recently announced partnership between Baylor Scott & White Health and NextCare Urgent Care. The state’s largest not-for-profit health system and one of the country’s leading privately held urgent care providers plan to integrate their offerings at 41 urgent care locations in such fast-growing cities as Houston, San Antonio, and Abilene over the next several months.

The goal is “to bring even more access points to patients in need,” according to NextCare CEO Derek Newell. “By joining forces, Baylor Scott & White Health and NextCare will accelerate their goal of providing customer-centric, high-quality health care to as many Texans as possible.”

Tempe, Ariz.-based NextCare combines virtual care with in-person urgent care settings to deliver what the company says is accessible, affordable, and high-quality health care to millions of patients with 170 clinics in 12 states. In addition to Texas, it has clinics in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Wyoming.

The new partnership with NextCare, one of the nation’s largest providers of urgent care services, makes Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White one of the state’s largest health system providers of urgent care — serving more than 3 million Texans with 51 hospitals and more than 1,200 access points, including flagship academic medical centers in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Temple.

With this partnership, Baylor Scott & White, which owns 51 hospitals and more than 1,200 flagship medical centers and other access points in Dallas, Fort Worth and Temple that serve other three million people, will introduce the health system into new markets.

Representatives from both Baylor Scott & White and NextCare say the two organizations will work closely to explore branding, digital integration, and other enhancements.
