Mike Tuffin to be AHIP's president & CEO

America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) this week announced Mike Tuffin as the associatioin’s new president and CEO. Julie Simon Miller, who has been the interim CEO since September 2023, will return to her original role as AHIP’s General Counsel when Tuffin steps in.

“There couldn’t be a better person to lead our members in 2024 and beyond,” Simon Miller said. “I look forward to continuing to work together to advance this vitally important industry in its pursuit to help all people reach their full health potential.”

Tuffin, who previously worked with AHIP from 2003-2012 as executive vice president for Public Affairs, will take over effective January 8th, 2024. He will leave his current position (since 2015) as senior vice president for External Affairs for UnitedHealth Group.

“I look forward to working with Mike as he takes the helm of our organization and leads us as we continue to advocate for the health of all Americans,” said Pat Geraghty, president and CEO, GuideWell and Florida Blue and the incoming chairman of AHIP’s Board of Directors in 2024.

“Millions of American families and employers count on AHIP’s members for their coverage and care and for support in navigating our complex health care system,” Tuffin said. “I am honored to join Julie and the high-performing AHIP team in advancing this critical work.”
