According to a new study from WalletHub, Hawaii is the most racially integrated state overall. The state's total score was not only the highest, but it was also top 10 in employment & wealth (2), education (6), and social & civic engagement (1). WalletHub measured the gaps between Black people and white people across 22 key equality indicators in all 50 states and Washington D.C. Alaska is number one in employment & wealth category overall, while Wyoming is the strongest in the education category. Washington (state) takes the top spot for the social & civic engagement category. "It's encouraging to see that many of the states that were the most resistant to integration have made substantial progress toward racial equality in the past fifty years or so. In fact, four of the states that have made the most racial progress overall are actually now among the top 10 most integrated states, which shows that both people's attitudes and government policies have changed dramatically." says Cassandra Happe, Wallethub Analyst. While there are plenty of ways to improve racial and social equality going forward, it's also nice to recognize the steps we as a country have taken.
