Breaking barriers and making strides

In our ever-evolving industry, women like Eliza Leder, Valerie Cramer, and Susan Spence are consistently breaking barriers and making significant strides. Check out what they have to say about their journeys and achievements!

As I prepared for my recent LinkedIn Live event for BenefitsPro with two other incredible women who have also been honored as Broker/Advisor of the Year, I felt a bit emotional. I had been writing this series for about a year when I received this honor in 2017, and now, sharing the title of Advisor of the Year with Nancy Giacolone and Chelsea Ryckis is beyond thrilling. Over nearly eight years of writing this series, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting remarkable women who have become some of my closest friends, peer mentors and allies. Being part of this project to elevate other women in our industry has been immensely fulfilling, and I believe we’re just getting started.

In our ever-evolving industry, women like Eliza Leder of Q4intelligence, Valerie Cramer of HealthBridge, and Susan Spence of Healthcare2U are consistently breaking barriers and making significant strides. Check out what they have to say about their journeys and achievements!

Eliza Leder, Q4intelligence

“Well-meaning people over the years often told me I had to specialize in order to be successful. However, in the past year, I’ve been Product Manager, marketing strategist, team manager, graphic designer, mentor, UX/UI expert, videographer, and copywriter. I’ve found that I’m good at all of them, and this versatility has become my strength.

“In the last 12 months, I’ve achieved significant milestones, successfully launching Goose by Q4i, a robust online business education and community platform. I’ve also mastered product management, led diverse teams, and spearheaded design and implementation. The effort I put in this year has resulted in the most complex and successful campaigns of my career.

“Through the priceless support and guidance of my community and key mentors, I’ve discovered how much I have to offer as a leader, a creative, and a strategic thinker. The joy I find in lifting others up and helping team members and independent business owners reach their fullest potential is unmatched and continues to grow as I do.”

Valerie Cramer, RHU, REBC, HealthBridge, a Patient Financial Security Program

“A little over a year ago, I was talking with a NABIP friend about my goal of achieving theRegistered Employee Benefits Consultant® (REBC®) designation. Having previously taken several required courses and a couple of electives, I needed to complete ‘ACA and Beyond: A Modern Look at Employee Benefits.’ This involved eleven 1-hour modules on a subject that has evolved significantly since its inception in 2014. Although my corporate role had shifted to community outreach and engagement, I wanted to review the legislation and its changes comprehensively.

“Despite having two kids in college and working at a rapidly pivoting start-up, I pursued and completed the courses. Earning the REBC® designation not only met my licensing CE requirements, but also greatly enhanced my industry conversations with brokers, employers and employees. If you’re considering further education or professional development through your industry association, I encourage you to take the leap and become a life-long learner. Join me in this journey of continuous growth!”

Susan Spence, Healthcare2U

“This past year has been a whirlwind of change and growth. Saying goodbye to an amazing company and fabulous consultants was bittersweet, but I was ready for a new challenge. With over a decade of entrepreneurial experience in sales and business development, I accepted a sales role at Healthcare2U in January 2024, stepping into the dynamic industry of direct primary care. The learning curve has been steep, but I’m embracing every moment. Attending conferences and networking events has fueled my passion for connecting with others and driving business growth. My tenacity, entrepreneurial spirit, and love for connecting with people have launched me on this exciting new journey. Completing “bossrides” on my Peloton and enjoying gorgeous sunsets at the end of my runs recharges me. As I gear up for the last half of 2024, I’m ready to tackle the challenges ahead with renewed energy and determination. Fourth quarter, bring it on!”
