Artificial intelligence has transformed entire industries in profound ways and employees are making great efforts to adapt, according to Zety's 2025 Future of Work Report. At the same time, relations between workers and their HR departments have changed very little: Many employees don’t feel comfortable communicating their concerns to human resources.
The study’s findings on AI’s impact on job security are quite chilling. According to the report, one in four people have lost a job due to artificial intelligence. Younger workers have been hit the hardest. Forty-three percent of people 25 or younger have lost jobs because of AI. That number dips to 27% for people 26-40, and to 19% for people over 41.

Considering the very real threat of AI to workers, it should come as no surprise that many employees are making efforts to learn more about the new technologies. Ninety-five percent of employees are participating in AI training or taking steps to improve their AI skills. One hundred percent of respondents said they were interested in improving their AI skills. Further, 71% said they already used AI at work.
While employee behavior has certainly changed in relation to AI, it has yet to be transformed on the human resources front. Although 87% of employees reported feeling supported by their HR departments, and 85% said they trusted their HR departments, far fewer said they’d be willing to report concerns in the office. Specifically, 38% of employees wouldn’t report experiencing sexual harassment to HR, 42% wouldn’t report seeing sexual harassment, and 43% wouldn’t report seeing discrimination, with 44% of women and 32% of men hesitant to speak out.
There are gaps between genders across the board when it comes to reporting such problems to HR. According to the report, 41% of women and 44% of men wouldn’t report witnessing discrimination. What’s more is 40% of women and 45% of men wouldn’t report witnessing sexual harassment in the workplace, and 44% of women and 32% of men wouldn’t report being a victim of sexual harassment.
