This year, like most others in recent memory, medical plan costs are up by as much as 7%. A International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans survey found that they are paced by:

  • utilization related to chronic health conditions (22%)
  • catastrophic claims (19%)
  • costs and utilization of specialty drugs and new cell and gene therapies (16%)
Today’s environment strains resources that also are under pressure from the general economic inflation that has persisted since 2020. While there’s no simple solution, a strategy that can pay off over the long term is to leverage the interconnected power of data analytics and clinical informatics to create optimized benefits plans. Doing so will help employers to gain an upper hand over risks and their costs.
