BlackRock execs are questioning research that finds that asset managers ownership stakes in rival companies can undermine competition and lead to higher prices for consumers.
The Financial Stability Board, whose members include the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of England, recommended that regulators bolster oversight of exchange-traded, mutual and other funds to ensure they can withstand market stress.
While the rates arent directly followed by most investors, even small movements can affect the value of what Morningstar Inc. estimates is about $3.6 trillion in funds including pension and savings accounts that track global indexes.
