Pharmaceutical makers are fitting drug trial participants with fitness trackers in hopes of streamlining trials. Someday, these wearables also could help prove to insurance companies that treatments are working.
Anthem, the third-largest health insurer in the country, said Wednesday it will cover Sprout Pharmaceuticals "female Viagra" pill Addyi in many cases. But others aren't sure yet.
Sprout Pharmaceuticals' female libido drug Addyi will be available as soon as Oct. 17, despite its modest benefit and serious side effects. The FDA had previously rejected the drug in 2013, then faced a backlash from some doctors and researchers.
Health insurers paid by the U.S. government to provide Medicare coverage will see their rates cut by about 0.9 percent next year, the U.S. government said.
