Many companies are clinging to an outdated patchwork of benefits designed for an era long gone, like offering rotary phones in a world of smartphones.

Leaders who focus solely on bringing employees back to the office without addressing fundamental cultural dynamics risk missing the larger opportunity to create work environments that drive growth and satisfaction.

Many of the nation’s largest employers have pulled back on DEI initiatives while others have doubled down.

Tim Noel, who was most recently chief executive of UnitedHealth’s Medicare division, will become CEO of the UnitedHealthcare business, the company said in an emailed statement.

Thirty-four percent of the surveyed workers reported using substances on the job.
